Robert PHILLIPSON
- Esperanto-Dokumento 37E. "This article analyses how some languages have become "international," and it quotes examples of the spread and legitimization of the most widely used, English. The subject of egalitarian linguistic rights is treated in relation to the practice of multilingualism in international organizations, the League of Nations and the United Nations, and in the most ambitious and largest of all unions of states, the European Union. It is possible to consider alternatives to a system in which a small number of official languages are used and which as a result gives rights on an unjust basis to people of different linguistic backgrounds. The article further points out that international languages force themselves on national languages in ways that do not agree with the principles of human rights." 2002. 19p. 210x150. Paper. Netherlands.
