This friendly, little book has short chapters each devoted to interesting aspects of the current Esperanto community. Written in very basic simple Esperanto, even a complete beginner with a dictionary can easily work through the book. Each chapter has a short overview, supplemented by pictures, followed by a sample dialog with a few questions to check comprehension. The choices are a bit eclectic, but are generally representative of the Esperanto movement as a whole, with interesting (if not necessarily predictable) selections from nearly every continent. One potential concern is how quickly the book will come to seem dated, but I believe the author has made good choices that should make this book hold pretty well over time. This is the perfect book for a beginner who wants to know what you can do with Esperanto.
